1. Information We Process

To provide local volume lock and remote parental volume management, Volume Lock processes the following minimal data:

Account & Family Credentials: Email address and Firebase User ID (`uid`) used exclusively for parent authentication, co-parent pairing, and family synchronization.
Device & System Identifiers: Hardware device model name and unique installation ID (`deviceId`) to identify paired child devices under your family account.
Volume Stream Settings & Safe Cap: Hardware audio stream levels (`MUSIC`, `RING`, `NOTIFICATION`, `ALARM`), stream lock states (`LOCKED`/`UNLOCKED`), and Safe Hearing Volume Cap limits (e.g. WHO 60% safe listening limit) to enforce parental volume policies.

2. Sensitive System Permissions

Volume Lock requests specific Android system permissions strictly for volume enforcement and safety functions:

Camera Permission (`CAMERA`): Used solely to scan the parent's single-use QR pairing code in real time. No photos, videos, or camera feeds are ever saved or transmitted.
Notification Permission (`POST_NOTIFICATIONS`): Used on Android 13+ solely to display the persistent background volume protection status notification.
Do Not Disturb Access (`ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY`): Used solely to enforce Ringtone, Notification, and Alarm volume limits when the device is set to Silent or DND mode.
Battery Optimization Exemption (`REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS`): Used solely to prevent system battery management from terminating background volume policy enforcement.

4. Data Retention & Account Deletion

Your data is retained only for as long as your account remains active. Parents have complete control to delete their account and all associated family data at any time directly within the app:

Open Volume Lock → Tap Profile / Account → Tap Delete Parent Account.
Account deletion permanently deletes your authentication credentials, family pairing documents, linked devices, and volume logs from our database.

5. Children's Privacy

Volume Lock is a parental utility designed to be installed by parents or legal guardians to protect children's hearing and manage device audio levels. The application does not collect personal information from children or engage in behavioral tracking or third-party advertising.
